Tips on How to Detect Phishing Scams
As the holiday season approaches, we always see a jump in the number of e-mail scams, malvertising and phishing attacks.
The bad guys know we’re busy, more willing to donate to charities, and we’re looking for online shopping deals at this time of year. They’re willing to take advantage of us at every opportunity, and they will be targeting your company and your users. In 2016, it’s estimated that ransomware alone will take in over a billion dollars from businesses just like yours (ex. “Cyber Extortion Losses Skyrocket, says FBI“).
We are seeing a significant growth in the number of phishing scams and ransomware attacks in Canada, and cybercriminals are charging higher ransom amounts in Canada than they are in the U.S.
In the attached PDF file we’ve compiled a list of helpful tips to ensure that you are better prepared to recognize these email scams. Please share these with you employees and friends so that they do not get hoodwinked into clicking on a compromised link and giving away their credentials or downloading malware from a fake web site.
